Detox drink recipes

  • Lemonade, castor oil cleanse

Lemons contain ascorbic acid that assists in the cleansing process

Mix a tablespoonful of castor oil with equivalent amount of lemon juice in a glass. This method works best in the morning when the stomach is empty. Drink the mixture then sip several glasses of hot water-like you would sip tea, until you feel the urge to pass stool. After three bowel movements, stop sipping the water. You may feel nauseated and exhausted. This is an expected side effect that clears on its own. Drink natural yogurt to restore normal flora. Avoid fatty food or nuts on this day. This method can be repeated at least after 2 weeks

  • Green detox drink

This vegetable detox drink is made up of green vegetables and water. This is done in 3 days. On these days, avoid all sugars, alcohol, sodas, processed foods, grains, gluten and animal products in your diet. Instead, enjoy green juices, smoothies and plant based meals. Stay well hydrated during this period.

Breakfast:

Take a green juice, basically a juice made of kale, spinach, cucumber, lemon and ginger.

(Optional)-Add a low sugar fruit e.g. apple.

Lunch:

Instead of a heavy lunch that requires a lot of energy to digest, take a nutrient dense green smoothie instead.

Snack:

If you feel you need a snack before dinner, try snacking on cut up raw vegetables e.g. cucumber slices, carrots or avocado (half)

Dinner:

Dinner should be the largest, densest meal of this program. The time between dinner and the next day’s breakfast is long enough to digest the meal. Start each dinner with a large green salad. Add a quarter of avocado for density. Have a baked sweet potato or squash such as butternut or corn.

NB: Get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, treat yourself to a massage during this detox period.

  • Fresh cranberry juice

Cranberry juice contains Vitamin C, Manganese and antioxidants. Take one glass of cranberry juice daily for best results.

  • Cucumber and lemon detox water

This is best for boosting immunity and flashing out toxins from your system. Works best when taken in the morning. To make this drink, you need 8 cups of water, a sliced cucumber, lemon and mint leaves. Mix all the ingredients in a large jar and keep in the fridge overnight. (you can opt to blend the cucumber with mint and add lemon juice)

  • Lemon and ginger detox drink

Ginger is a natural detoxing agent and a natural painkiller. Take a sliced lemon, crated ginger and squeezed lemon juice as well. Put in a liter of water. Drink in the morning.

Detoxification is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from our bodies. Natural this function is mainly carried out by the liver . The skin and the lungs also take part in detoxification. However , excess toxins sometimes compromise the natural process of toxin removal. There are several ways in alternative medicine that can be used to cleanse our bodies. Conditions such as asthma, cancer, chronic fatigue, multiple chemical sensitivity and many others are strongly influenced by exposure to toxic or allergenic substances in the environment or diet. Heavy metals such as lead and mercury are by products of the industry , pesticides and herbicides used in crops have found ways in our systems. Other sources of toxins include processed foods, junk, high sugar food like sodas and alcohol among others. Removing these impurities will help protect our bodies from disease and renew  our ability to maintain optimum health. Detox methods include fasting, stimulating the liver to remove toxins, promoting elimination through the intestines, kidneys and skin, improving blood circulation and refueling our bodies with healthy nutrients. Detox benefits include treating sugar/alcohol dependencies, for weight loss , smooth skin, improve mood and to build up energy. Home remedies for toenail fungus

Toenail fungus (medically known as onychomycosis) is a type of fungal infection that occurs when fungi called dermatophytes start growing under the nail.

It usually causes the nail to become crusty, thick, discolored and distorted. As the infection gets worse, the toenail may separate from the nail bed, which can cause lot of pain as well as a bad odor.

This is often a chronic problem and it can easily spread to other nails through the skin between the toes. It also spreads when nail files and clippers are used on an infected toenail and then other nails.

However there are known home remedies for this problem as illustrated below.

1.Onion
Onions have antifungal properties that can help to treat onchomycosis
Cut an onion into thick slices and gently rub them on the affected toenail for five minutes. Leave the onion extract on the toenail for at least 20 minutes. Then wash the area with lukewarm water and dry it thoroughly. Follow this simple treatment twice daily to see quick improvement.
Alternatively, crush some onion pieces to extract its juice. Apply the juice on the infected toenail with a cotton ball and secure it with a bandage or tape. Leave it on for one hour and then wash it off with lukewarm water and pat dry. Use this simple treatment twice daily for two months to ensure that the infection does not recur.

2.Garlic
Garlic is another easily available home remedy for fighting toenail fungi. It contains an antifungal compound known as ajoene that’s effective in treating fungal infections
Finely crush seven to eight garlic cloves and add them to a foot bath filled with lukewarm water. Soak the infected area in the solution for half an hour. Pat dry and then apply some petroleum jelly on the infected toenail. Do this once daily until you get rid of the fungus completely.

3.Baking soda
The alkaline nature of baking soda makes it a good home remedy for toenail care. It increases the skin pH making it difficult for fungi to thrive.

Mix two parts baking soda and one part warm water to make a paste. Apply the paste on the infected toenail using a cotton ball. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Repeat twice a day for about a month.
Combine four tablespoons of baking soda, one cup of white vinegar and two to three cups of lukewarm water. Soak your feet in this solution for 15 minutes, and then pat dry with paper towels. Do this twice a day for at least one month.
You can also sprinkle a little baking soda in your shoes and let it sit overnight. Dump the powder out in the morning before wearing your shoes. It will prevent the fungi from attacking your toenails.

4.Apple cidar vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is one of the best home remedies for toenail fungus due to the presence of antimicrobial properties.

It helps kill the fungus causing the infection, and its mild acidic nature will also prevent the infection from spreading.

Mix equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and lukewarm water. Soak the infected toenail in this solution for half an hour. When done, pat dry your toenail thoroughly. You can even use a hair dryer to remove all the moisture in and around the toes. Do this once daily for a few weeks.
Alternatively, you can make an exfoliating scrub with one tablespoon of coarsely ground rice flour and two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar. Mix the ingredients well to make a thick paste. Apply the paste on the infected toenail and gently scrub with a toothbrush for five minutes to get rid of dead skin cells. Then rinse your feet well and pat dry with a soft towel. Follow this remedy every other day for one or two months
